RE:  Primary School Science Fair

Staff and Parents our annual Science Fair will be held the week of February 23rd-27th, 2009.  In order to get ready for this grand event we will be hosting two parent nights.  The first meeting is on the 28th of January, during which we will be explaining the rules and regulations for the Science Fair as well as suggesting resources.  The second meeting will be held on the 11th of February at which  time, we will be available to assist families with the finishing touches of the different projects.

Rules:

1.        Your project should not exceed 48” wide, 108” high, and 30’ deep

2.      Displays must stand by its self. Poster board should be reinforced.

3.      Your display objects should be mounted on a wooden base or securely sealed in a tamperproof plastic container. Any objects deemed harmful will be removed so please do not include them (use a picture of them if needed).  Please display any items you value or could be broken in a way that does not invite careless handling.

4.      Please put your name, school and grade on the back of the project, (not in the front).

5.       Try to display your project in a way that tells the story of what your science investigation.

6.      How you applied the scientific method should also be understandable by looking at your project.

7.      The use of subtitles is good

Scientific Method:

1.       Problem/purpose- What is the scientific question you are trying to answer?

2.      Hypothesis; Your educated prediction regarding the outcome of your experiment.

3.      Procedure/research- Explain how you will conduct your experiment to test your hypothesis, what materials you will use as well as any information you gathered from the library, teachers, or other references.

4.      Experiment/analysis- Conduct your experiment and explain any findings or observations you make.

5.      Conclusion- This is the answer to your problem/purpose and proof or disproof of your hypothesis.
