Friday Reflection: Find the Good
Good morning, TCUSD FAMILY,
As we head into the long weekend, I’ve been thinking about three simple words: Find the good. That doesn’t mean pretending everything is good. It doesn’t mean ignoring the hard stuff or avoiding the conversations we need to have. It simply means not getting so focused on what’s wrong that we stop seeing what’s right. And there is a lot that is right.
Every week, I get the opportunity to walk through our schools, visit classrooms, talk with staff, and spend time with our students. I see kids excited about what they’re learning. I see staff members stepping up to help one another without being asked. I see people staying late, coming in early, solving problems, encouraging kids, and doing things that may never receive recognition. I see families and community members showing up for our students. Most importantly, I see people who genuinely care about making TCUSD better.
Are there challenges? Absolutely. We’re going to face them, talk about them, and work together to address them. But I refuse to let our challenges become our identity. Our kids are bigger than that. Our staff is better than that. And our future is brighter than that.
Sometimes we become so busy solving the next problem that we forget to notice the good happening right in front of us. I’m guilty of that, too. One difficult email, conversation, or moment can take up far more space in our minds than the twenty good things that happened around it. I’m trying to get better at that myself.
So, this weekend, my challenge to all of us, including me, is simple: Find the good. Find it in a student. Find it in a coworker. Find it in your family. Find it in our community. And take a moment to find it in yourself, too. When you see something good, say it. Thank somebody. Send the text. Give the compliment. Let people know that what they do matters. Because what we choose to notice has a funny way of becoming what we create more of.
Enjoy the long weekend. Get some rest, spend time with people you care about, laugh a little, and come back ready to keep building something special together. There is a lot of good happening at TCUSD. Let’s keep finding it.
