Friday Reflection: One Team
Good morning, TCUSD Family,
Today is September 11th, and before anything else, I think it’s important that we remember. We remember the lives lost 25 years ago today. We remember the families whose lives changed forever. And we remember the first responders and everyday people who stepped up when others needed them most.
I was thinking about that this morning and about something I heard at the conference this week. The conversation was about the Dignity Index and how we treat people, especially when we disagree. It made me think about us. We should be One Team. I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. I’ve heard others around our district say those same words, and I appreciate hearing it every time because I truly believe it. Being One Team doesn’t mean we are always going to agree. We aren’t. We’re human. We’re going to have different opinions, get frustrated, and sometimes see things completely differently.
But at the end of the day, we are still on the same team, working for the same kids. And that means we can still treat each other right. We can talk to each other instead of about each other. We can listen before we assume. We can disagree without disrespecting someone. And we can work on the problem without making each other the problem. I need to be better at that sometimes, too. We all do.
What really hit me this morning is that our kids weren’t here on September 11th, 2001. They will learn about that day from us and from the history books. But there are some things they can only learn by watching us. How do we treat people. How do we handle disagreements. How do we help someone who needs us. How we come together when things are hard. That’s bigger than any lesson we could put on a board.
We have around 1,400 kiddos watching us and counting on us. Different roles. Different opinions. Different perspectives. But we should always strive to be One Team. Today, we remember those who were lost and honor those who served. And maybe we honor them in one more simple way:
Take care of each other. That’s something all of us can do. Have a meaningful Friday, Warriors, and enjoy your weekend with the people you love.
