Education Corner: August Edition

Warrior Family,
As we begin our first month together, I am excited to introduce something new: The Education Corner.
Each month, I want to use this space to share a short conversation about teaching, learning, student achievement, and the work happening across TCUSD. My goal is simple: to help connect what we do every day to why we do it, which is OUR STUDENTS For our first Education Corner, I want to start with something I believe deeply:
Student Achievement: They Are More Than a Test Score
Academic achievement matters. Arizona's assessments provide important information about how well students are mastering our state's academic standards. We need that information. We need to understand our data, celebrate areas of growth, identify gaps, and use what we learn to strengthen instruction. But a test score is one measure. It is not the measure of a child. Behind every percentage is a student. Behind every data point is a name. Behind every name is a story. OUR students bring talents, culture, creativity, resilience, leadership, curiosity, and dreams into our schools every day. A student can make tremendous academic growth and still not cross a proficiency line yet. That growth matters, too.
At THE Tuba City Unified School District, I want us to embrace both sides of this conversation.
High expectations AND strong relationships.
Achievement AND growth.
Accountability AND opportunity.
Data AND the whole child.
Achievement AND growth.
Accountability AND opportunity.
Data AND the whole child.
We aren't lowering the bar by seeing more than a score. We're raising it by believing every student can GROW. So, as we begin this school year, here's something I hope stays with us:
Know the data. Know the standards. Know the student. Because our goal is bigger than preparing the Warriors for a test. We are preparing them for their future. That's student achievement.
Kids Come First. Stronger Together. We Are Tuba City.
