The Education Corner: October Edition

TCUSD Family,
As we begin October, I want to share this month’s Education Corner and focus on something that I believe can have a tremendous impact on what happens in our classrooms every single day: meaningful feedback. One thing I continue to believe strongly is that we have to invest in our own. We have talented people across TCUSD, and part of getting better together is being willing to support one another, learn from one another, and have conversations that help us grow. That is where feedback matters.
The goal isn’t simply to give more feedback. The goal is to give feedback that moves learning forward. As our leadership team has been visiting classrooms, we have been working around a simple process:
Evidence → Impact → Next Step → Follow-Up
What did we actually see? What impact did it have on student learning? What is one meaningful next step? And maybe most importantly, did we come back and see what happened next? That last piece matters. Feedback should never feel like a “gotcha.” It should be about growth, support, and getting better together. That applies to all of us, including me.
As we move through October and begin looking at our first benchmark data, I want us to keep asking one simple question:
What do our students need from us next?
Our North Star is student learning. Every classroom visit, every conversation, every piece of feedback, and every adjustment we make should ultimately bring us back to that. We are not going to change everything overnight, but we can get a little better every day. One classroom at a time. One conversation at a time. One student at a time. Thank you for continuing to show up for our students and for each other. I appreciate what you do, and I am excited about where we are headed together.
Stronger Together,
